Hillary Might Not Have Tipped A Waitress in Iowa! And, oh yeah, Giuliani's Police Chief Indicted on Corruption Charges
At the top of the news this morning: witnesses allege that Hillary Clinton failed to tip a waitress in Iowa recently. The Clinton campaign disputes that.
In other news, Bernie Kerik, former police commissioner of New York City, former nominee to head the Department of Homeland Security, and protege and former business partner of Rudy Giuliani, was indicted today.
Authorities allege that Kerik took tens of thousands of dollars in services from benefctors and never reported it as income.
After his nomination to be Secretary of Homeland Security (put forward and recommended by Rudy Giuliani) he was hit with a string of revelations about personal and professional improprieties:
- Stock option windfalls (i.e., $6.2 million from a company that did business with his police department).
- Connecitons with people suspected of having mob ties
- Overlapping extramarital affairs with Judith Regan (publisher of the infamous OJ book) and a city correction officer. His liaisons reportedly occurred in an apartment near Ground Zerio in NYC that had been set aside for rescue workers. Kerik has been married since 1998 and has two children.
After being nominated for the position of Secretary of Homeland Security, he later withdrew, citing tax problems concerning a former nanny.
However state investigators had uncovered expensive renovations done to his Bronx apratment in 1999, allegedly paid for by Mafia connected builders who wanted sweetheart contracts with the city. They have plead not guilty to charges that they lied to the grand jury about their relationship with Kerik.
In an earlier case, Giuliani was forced to testify before a state grand jury and Kerik subsequently plead guilty to accepting illegal gifts while on the city payroll. He did not get any jail time in that case.
Recently Giuliani had this to say about his association with Kerik:
"Sure, there were issues [with Kerik], but if I have the same degree of success and failure as president of the United States, this country will be in great shape."
