How To Rock Gonzo's World
When Gonzalez told Schumer to bite his crank, he figured he had nothing to lose. But a commenter at Kevin Drum's fine blog added this observation that stopped me in my tracks with its brilliant simplicity:
I would guess that [Gonzalez] has a presidential pardon in his back pocket so is not at all worried about the consequences. If I was the Judiciary Committee, I would say to him that we are going to refer the entire matter to the next Congress and see how smug he looks after that.
Perfect! Bush can't pardon a guy who hasn't been indicted or convicted...yet.

Uhhhh....not so fast.
Nixon wasn't charged with anything when Ford put a pardon in his pocket.

Good point.
Bush himself could pardon Gonzo two days after Gonzo steps down and one day after Bush recess-appoints Ted Olson to head the DoJ.

Why is it that the single best, and most enduring institution that any Republican has ever given the world is the Betty Ford Clinic for wealthy addicts?

Good question.
Does Bob Hope's Pro Am Golf Tournament count...?

For the same reason that the single worst and most enduring institution that any Republican has ever given the world is the John Birch Society: they are very, very sick people.
