Get Thee Behind Me, Thetan!

I can't believe this guy could become the next president of the United States:

When asked his favorite novel in an interview shown yesterday on the Fox News Channel, Mitt Romney pointed to “Battlefield Earth,” a novel by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. That book was turned into a film by John Travolta, a Scientologist.
Scientology and Mormonism...Scientology and Mormonism. I can't decide which one is more credible!

By the way, am I the only one who sees a resemblance between Romney and Kronk from The Emperor's New Groove?

I loved that book! The only book I've ever read three times. It has zero to do with scientology. Nothing, naddah.

And Travolta really tried to do it justice, but you can't turn a One Thousand page novel into a two hour movie, you just can't.

It's a fun romp, really. This is the GOP equivalent of a $400 hair cut.

I wish Hubbard had just stuck to sci-fi. I also read his 10 part Mission Earth "Decalogy" (a word he coined). I was always kinda convinced that the whole scientology thing was Hubbard's idea of a practical joke that he came up with while writing about philosophy and drinking too many gin and tonics.

What I was impressed with was the idea that someone could write sci-fi that was funny, preposterous even, yet keep you turning pages after pages after pages. The ten-parter was the most impressive overall work he did, right up there with (but far less serious than) Herbert's Dune series and Azimov's Foundation books.

But if you're a sci-fi fan (and I certainly am), Romney is correct. Battlefield Earth is the best stand alone novel there is.
