Top Republicans are bluffing their way through this election
We're into "head-game" territory now.
Republicans -- their party in tatters, with voters verrrrrrrry angry with the rubber-stamp Republican Congress -- have only one thing left: bluff, bluff and more bluff. And/But, in poker, you win if you can bluff your opponents just enough.
And, if it works, if they can bluff their way to "victory," i.e., avoiding the loss of the House and Senate, then they will call this an historic mandate. And you know they will use this mandate to further trash the Constitution and -- who knows? -- begin a nuclear war with Iran.
And Republicans are playing the traditional media like a fiddle.
From the Times:
"Mr. Rove has told associates that the party's turnout machinery, through which the White House will continue to pump an unrelenting message against Democrats on taxes and terrorism, gives Republicans an advantage of four to seven percentage points in any given race. Though Democrats call that too generous, they acknowledge that it accounts for at least a few percentage points."Sounds like bluff and bluster to me. But that just means that Democrats have to redouble their efforts.
"Mr. Rove and Ms. Taylor are said by associates to have spent hours going through data on volunteer efforts, voter registration tallies and financial matchups between candidates throughout the states, and they see a path to victory."Blah blah blah. What else do you expect them to say?
My advice to Democrats (especially challengers) running for the House? Stay focused and talk about the direction this country is headed in. Tell voters that if they keep on doing what they've always done, they'll keep on getting what they always gotten. But if voters have had enough, then vote for change -- vote Democratic.

Comments
You know why Rove is panicked? Because every local election is now nationalized. Everyone in the country knows that a vote for an individual Republican, even one they like, is a vote for continued Republican-only control of the country. No one in their right mind, not even some Republicans, wants that.
