Judge Alito and Snoopgate
It was only a matter of time before Bush's warrant-less snooping showed up on the radar screen of the Senate Judiciary Committee's confirmation hearings for Judge Samuel Alito.
As such, Armando has a few questions he'd ask the judge if he, Armando, sat on the committee:
I would ask ScAlito three questions on this issue:These are important questions because the SCOTUS will probably, at some time in the future, sit in judgement of whether or not Bush broke the law.
- "What checks and balances, if any, exist to the President's powers as defined in Article II of the Constitution, particularly in his role as Commander in Chief? Please be precise in your answer Judge Alito."
- What powers are granted to the Congress with respect to the military affairs of the federal government by Article I, Section 8, of the United States Constitution? Please be precise in your answer Judge Alito.
- Do you believe that the Federalist Papers shed any light on these issues? If so, which writings and what light do they shed? Please address in particular, Federalist 23, 24, 25, 26 and Federalist 69.
