Ethernet Inventor Says Transformation to Internet Video is Here

From Beet.TV:

Bob Metcalf, the inventor of Ethernet, says he's long had a vision of the Internet as a delivery platform for video. Sure video takes more bandwidth, but it's still all about the Ethernet packets which carry the data, he notes.

Among the most important implications is the prospect of energy savings by facilitating communications through video interaction.

Watch the interview, then join me on the flip side:

Real quickly:

There will always be an advantage to those who know how to convince others in person, versus those who don't.

But now there will also be an advantage to those who know how to convince via video, versus those who can't.

It's not so much that "better video" will "replace" pressing the flesh -- rather, better video will give an advantage to those who can use it effectively, giving them a competitive edge over those who can't, equipping them to reset the terms under which business is done.

Those who gain this competitive edge will do so because they understand its unique language of persuasion better than those who do not (or cannot).

In short, it isn't so much that video will replace being there in person. Instead, it will make you more competitive to begin with.
