- Torture legalized & Bush-Cheney pardon themselves
- NIE says Iraq war is making terrorism worse
- Foley sex scandal and meltdown of House leadership
- Woodward's book including Condi's brushing off the CIA shortly before 9/11(among other details)

Perfect storm doesn't cover it. Hypocrisy is no longer an adequate word.
I've seen nuclear explosions on film. What do you call an implosion of nuclear proportions?
You and I remember that in one week (October '73) we saw the Yom Kippur war in the Middle East, the US going to DefCon III, and Nixon triggering the Saturday Night Massacre. All in one week.
That was pretty mind-boggling.
This certainly ranks right up there.

We had a Real Congress then. Not only were the Democrats able to check POTUS, they had enough clout to override Nixon's veto of the War Powers Resolution the next month.
It was an amazing time to first become interested in politics.
And yes, Cafferty and Olberman ROCK!

Jesus, if it were Democrats in power, it would be pitchforks, torches and scaffolds on the mall.
And that's the thing Shep. The GOPers are loyal 1st and foremost to the party.
Dems selfishness to themselves and their narrow constituencies causes the very disarray that would let them hang someone like Foley out to dry instantly, as if he were radioactive.
No cover-up, but expulsion -- ugly and public. The party be damned when their own skin is in peril.
