Bush Skips Complex Realities in Address

Associated Press reporters Calvin Woodward and Hope Yen puncture the myths in Bush's SOTU address:

President Bush set energy self-sufficiency goals Tuesday night that would still leave the country vulnerable to unstable oil sources. He also declared he is helping more people get health care, despite a rising number of uninsured.

Whether promoting a plan to "save Social Security" or describing Iraqi security forces as "increasingly capable of defeating the enemy," Bush skipped over some complex realities in his State of the Union speech.

They go on to pick apart Bush's rhetoric and present the reality on a host of topics in the speech:
  • Energy
  • Health Care
  • Social Security
  • Iraq
  • Katrina
  • Homeland Security
  • Education
  • Spending
It's nice to see reporters, you know, actually compare what he says with what he does.

Oh Puh-leeze. Other politicians “skip over some complex realities”. Bush (Rove) reduces them to stupid cartoons (that often depict the exact opposite of reality) that his base swallows whole, turning a big part of the chattering class into foolish sounding parrots a solid third of the electorate into functional political idiots.

Saddam (enemy of the Wahabiists) + WMDs = center of the (Wahabbi) terrorist threat.

The “law enforcement approach” to the terrorists was stupid (but that’s what we’re doing in spades).

Adhering to the rule of law and the US Constitution is “giving comfort to enemy” who hate our way of life (particularly the Constitution and the rule of law).

Supporting (foolish, ill-planned and poorly executed) wars is being “pro-military”.

Inflaming the rage of Muslims around the world through naked aggression, killing tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis and Afghans, kidnapping, torture, and occupying Arab countries is “spreading democracy” and “making us safe from terror”.

Acting tough = being tough.

Intelligent Design (“we don’t believe science”) = a scientific theory.

Dismantling Social Security = “Saving Social Security”.

Indian tribes lobbying Democrats = (Bush Pioneer) Abramoff scandal is “bi-partisan”.

I could go on…for a long time.
