Here's another crater in the moonscape of Republican corruption

It turned out that Congressman Mark Foley, pedophile, was in charge of the Missing and Exploited Childrens' Caucus. Yuck.

Now, we hear that Congressman Jerry Lewis, himself under investigation for corruption charges, is in charge of, well, investigating fraud, waste and abuse of Congressional appropriations.

But wait!

Think Progress:

Powerful House Appropriations Committee Chairman Jerry Lewis (R-CA) has "fired 60 investigators who had worked for his committee rooting out fraud, waste and abuse, effective immediately." According to Congressional Quarterly, "The investigators were contract workers, brought on to handle the extraordinary level of fraud investigations facing the panel."
Timing is everything, Congressman.

But wait! There's even more...

Lewis' spokesman, John Scofield, told Congressional Quarterly that such complaints were "sour grapes," and assured the publication that "there is nothing sinister going on."
Sinister?? Bwahaha! Listen, dude: the first rule of political communications is that you NEVER use your opponent's language in your own press release.

Sinister. Hahahahaha. Golly -- you can't make this stuff up, people.
